Competitive cycling continues to grow in popularity every year, and on the leisure side, more and more mountain bikers are taking to the countryside.
Competitive cycling is organized into a series of meets throughout the year, mostly held on Sundays, although serious cyclists are on the roads every day building their fitness. Most of the top cyclists compete overseas and the best Barbados racers have performed well at the Commonwealth and the Olympic Games. The sport is also enjoyed at both youth level and Masters level.
Away from competitive cycling mountain bikers do their own thing as part of their personal fitness and leisure routine. Barbados has hundreds of road and off-road trails that are perfect for mountain-bike rides, and is there a better way to see this beautiful island?
Bikes are available for hire for visitors, and while our roads are relatively safe, good road safety practice is advised at all times.

Sporting Barbados magazine was introduced in 1998 and remains an annual sports tourism publication that extols the virtues of the sporting and leisure activities of Barbados.
It is particularly valuable to prospective visitors as it not only covers the main topics, but it gives a plethora of information about activities, attractions, the island, the people, the culture and just about anything a tourist would want to know before they arrive, or while they are here.
