Get Away & Play (Tennis) in the Caribbean!: October 24 - October 27, 2018

{TORONTO, ON—} October 22- 27, 2018 will bring in over 100 athletes from around the world to the beautiful, vibrant island of Barbados for the second annual Barbados Cup Tennis Championships. Barbados Cup will feature both adult and junior (ITF) sanctioned tournaments, as well as a week full of socials, networking and a pro exhibition match!

The tournament will be played on hard courts at the National Tennis Centre and consist of numerous events for each age group. Junior players can compete in enter singles or doubles in the U18 draw; And adults have the opportunity to compete in singles, doubles or mixed doubles. the adult championships will also be divided into four tiers: Open, A group, B group and Fun (recreational).

Qualifiers for Barbados Cup will take place October 20-21, and then the week will formally begin with a Welcome Party on Sunday, October 22 for all players and their guests staying at the tournament hotel- Infinity on the Beach. All official events will take place October 22-27, and the Junior Finals will be televised nationally on the 27th!

A highlight of the week will be the pro exhibition match between local Davis Cup player Haydn Lewis and Xavier Malisse.  Malisse is a retired Belgian professional tennis player who achieved a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 19 after notable wins over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. During his career, he won 3 ATP singles titles and 9 doubles titles. The two will face off for an exciting match on Thursday, October 26 at 4pm. All players and their guests will receive complimentary tickets to the match. The remainder of the tickets can be bought by the public, the morning of match!

About the Caribbean Cup Tennis Series: the CCTS features 10 events in 9 countries throughout the Caribbean. The 2019 Circuit will feature events in Antigua, Anguilla, Barbados, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Curacao, Jamaica, the U.S. Virgin Islands and St. Vincent. Each event is centered around Local Youth Development, Caribbean Travel and Charity, and each tournament offers participants a chance to challenge top ranked players from around the globe.
