James Johnston

Thursday, 29th August 2013

James Johnston is widely acknowledged as the best Barbados golfer of all time and with good reason given the way he has dominated Barbados and Caribbean golf over the past decade. A multiple Barbados champion, it is not just the victories that have set him part, but the margins, because on many occasions he has had no serious contender at the finish.

James is the son of well-known Barbados sporting and business personality Ralph Johnston and from an early age he was identified as a young golfer with immense potential. He tried his luck on the fiercely competitive American Professional Circuit, but eventually returned home and settled into a marketing role the family business. In 2006 he represented Barbados with Roger Beale (Jun) in the World Championship of Golf at Sandy Lane Country Club, but returned to the amateur ranks shortly afterwards.

James is currently unrivalled in Barbados golf and is always the hot favourite for the Caribbean Championship, which he has won on several occasions.

But above all, he is an extremely modest champion and very popular amongst his peers.
