Tino Best

Saturday, 31st August 2013

It is hard to believe Tino Best made his test debut as far back as 2003 as the colourful West Indian and Barbados fast bowler has all the energy and vitality of a young teenager breaking into the big time. Much of that comes down to his superb fitness and exuberance, sometimes overdone in the heat of battle. There have been many descriptions of his personality-abrasive, provocative and talkative being the most widely used, but there’s no denying his talent and the energy he brings to any team.

Tino has had a love-hate relationship with selectors over the past decade, but he’s now firmly established in the West Indies and Barbados squads and has plenty to offer at the highest level. He played for the franchised St Lucia Zouks in the recent Limacol CPL and produced some lively spells of high quality pace bowling. He also played for English County Yorkshire in 2010.

Like many fast bowlers Best has always harboured ambitions as a batsman and it all come to fruition against England at Edgbaston in June 2012 when he scored a world record at the time of 95 not out and shared a 143-run partnership with Denesh Ramdin, another achievement that sits high in the all-time test records.

Above all, no cause is lost with Tino Best in the team as he gives 100%.
