The Barbados Yacht Club is the focal point of local sailing and the social and sporting centre of the sport. The Barbados Sailing Association operates from this base and most local sailors use the dry dock facilities. The Yacht Club is also the base for learner classes to teach potential young sailors the skills of sailing, and the centre of administration on race days. It is also a popular place to lime for many locals and visitors, as the beach and restaurant facilities are excellent.
The buzz in Barbados sailing in the past two years has come from J24 sailing, as that’s the racing class that is most competitive because the boats are essentially the same. Barbados has a busy sailing season but the Mount Gay Rum Regatta remains the jewel in the local sailing crown, and a popular attraction for visiting sailors who participate on the lively Caribbean regatta circuit.

Sporting Barbados magazine was introduced in 1998 and remains an annual sports tourism publication that extols the virtues of the sporting and leisure activities of Barbados.
It is particularly valuable to prospective visitors as it not only covers the main topics, but it gives a plethora of information about activities, attractions, the island, the people, the culture and just about anything a tourist would want to know before they arrive, or while they are here.
