Both competitive and leisure tennis are very active in Barbados. The island has a plethora of courts at various locations and visitors can hire courts, and also arrange coaching lessons at moderate expense.
The National Tennis Centre is located at the Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex at Wildey and most of the major tournaments avail of its excellent facilities. The island boasts a number of promising young tennis players. Some hotels have their own tennis courts, but if not, there are public facilities within a short distance of most hotels on both the West and South Coasts. Rockley Resort offers both courts and coaching under the expert tuition of big ‘Lou’ Fuentes. Lou coaches from dawn to dusk and from toddlers up. He is also one of the sport’s leading personalities. The biggest event on the local tennis calendar is the ITF Junior Barbados International Tennis Tournament that attracts young players from all over the world.
