Charity Golf Tournament at B'dos Golf Club: December 11 - 2019

Rugby Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds for Cancer Society

Bridgetown – Rugby Barbados World 7s (RBW7s) Tournament Organisers have announced today they are partnering with the Barbados Cancer Society to host their third annual Charity Event. For the very first time, the event will be a Charity Golf Tournament with proceeds going towards Breast Cancer research and will honour Caribbean Rugby stalwart and avid Women’s Rugby supporter Gavin Clark, who died in January this year.

The 2019 Gavin Clark Memorial RBW7s Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday 11th December at the Barbados Golf Club and the RBW7s Local Organising Committee are calling on all locals and visitors alike to consider supporting the event with a generous donation of US $100 (including cart hire) to play in the Tournament, and support the Barbados Cancer Society.

Some of the best local and international brands have rallied together this year to donate an array of top-quality prizes to attract players to win big at the RBW7s Charity Event. First prize for the winning pair of golfers includes JetBlue Vacations certificates and flight certificates from JetBlue. Other fabulous prizes up for grabs include a spa treatment at an exclusive West Coast hotel spa, free car rentals, hotel staycations, gift bags, wine hampers, and more. There will also be a Charity Auction with a US$1000 JetBlue Vacations certificate and JetBlue flight certificates for two people going to highest bidder; all in the name of Breast Cancer research and the supportive services provided by the Barbados Cancer Society.

President of the Barbados Cancer Society, Dr. Dorothy Cooke-Johnson, said she was extremely thankful that RBW7s had chosen the Society as this year’s charitable recipient. “There are so many aspects to Breast Cancer support that people may not be aware of. As the national Cancer body on the island, we deliver a range of care and support services including breast screening and early detection methods, prostheses consultation and assistance, community education, fundraising events, Hospital patient services and transport for outpatients, data services and Cancer research, and so much more. This wonderful donation on behalf of RBW7s and the general public will go a long way to helping us to deliver the quality care and support the Barbados Cancer Society is known for,” she said. “We are proud to be associated with sports such as Rugby, especially Women’s Rugby, and Golf as part of our promotion of health and wellness to all Barbadians, and give our heartfelt thanks to all who choose to participate in the Golf Tournament as part of their charitable donation to us.”

The Charity Golf Event kicks off a busy few days for sport in Barbados, with RBW7s as the highest paying Women’s Club Rugby 7s Tournament in the world and the longest running Club Rugby 7s Tournament in the Caribbean to follow the Golf at the iconic Kensington Oval over 13-14 December. The highly-anticipated Rugby Tournament is now in its fourth year in Barbados since relocating from Trinidad, and has 20 of the best Men’s and Women’s Club Rugby teams from across the globe registered to compete in this year’s event, which organisers say will eventually rival the likes of both the internationally-renowned Hong Kong Sevens and Dubai Sevens, especially in the Women’s Division. Tickets for the 2019 RBW7s Tournament are now on sale online via TicketPal Caribbean and at all local TicketPal outlets in Barbados. Daily general admission ranges from US$1 for youth 17 years and under, to US$10 for adults.
