HIGH-END SAILING-A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY IN THE MAKING
The prestigious Panerai Transat Classique Regatta is scheduled to finish in Barbados at the start of December, but there is already a huge buzz of excitement at the prospect of over 30 yachts descending on Carlisle Bay and the Careenage a few weeks before Christmas. The crews will be supported by hundreds of visitors and a Regatta Village is being set up in Independence Square to highlight the event and to allow local people and visitors an opportunity to share the experience. Big yachts in town means big buzz!
Cross Atlantic Yacht Racing is very popular amongst the elite of the sailing fraternity and their arrival in Barbados offers a host of business opportunities for local commerce. Many of the crews stay for longer periods and they love the relaxed ambience of the Caribbean and our friendly culture. Barbados has played host to a number of top sailing events in recent times and will also host the 505 World Championships in 2013. The island offers a bevy of attractions on island and excellent restaurants and hotels.
It begs the question why we don’t have a big marina at Carlisle Bay, which would attract hundreds of yachts and sailing craft all year round and make it a viable business and tourist attraction?
