Plans for the 4th Bridgetown Pan American Continental Cup triathlon on Sunday 19th April 2015, on the Spring Garden course, are progressing smoothly. Both local elite triathletes, Jason Wilson and Matthew Wright are expected to return home for this race and attempt to win back the title from some of the best in the world, on home soil.
Jason will be hauling some ‘jet lag’ as he makes his way back from a month long triathlon camp in Australia where he raced in two World Cups and one Oceania Continental Cup. Matthew’s last race was in Portugal three weeks ago and should be well rested for our event.
The Bridgetown Pan American race begins at 7:30am with a very competitive field of women vying for points to improve their ranking. Top seeds Taylor Spivey, Erin Dolan, and Nicole Truxes, all representing USA, will be under pressure from the Rios twins, Militza and Melissa, from Puerto Rico, as well as Favia Diaz from Chile and a strong group of Canadians led by Leanna Lee.
The Men’s race will start at 9:30am with Jason Wilson as the number 1 seed. He will have a fight to the finish from William Huffman (USA), Manuel Huerta (Puerto Rico), Eric Lagerstrom (USA), Tom Svoboda (Czech Rep.), and a host of other international triathletes led by many othe Americans and Canadians.
There will also be the Barbados Sprint Triathlon on the evening of Saturday 18th April 2015, on the same course, for non-elite triathletes starting at 4:00pm. Anyone interested in competing in the Barbados Sprint Triathlon should visit our website for details at http://www.triathlonbarbados.com/ and should note that the deadline for entries is before April 15th, 2015.
We would like to mention to the motoring public that traffic on the Spring Garden Highway will be diverted, under Police control, from approximately 3:30pm – 6:00pm on Saturday, and again on Sunday morning from 6:00am until 11:00am. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and invite everyone to come witness these exciting races.
