On Saturday 28th. January the International Shotokan Karate Federation of Barbados held its 2011 Annual Awards presentation. This event was sponsored by CIBC 1st. Caribbean Bank and Powerade, a total of 20 students and Instructors were there to receive their awards.

The student awards are determined based on the results of the three tournaments held locally in 2011; these students range in all ranks and ages and show the level of commitment and consistency during the year, awardees’ are as follows: Alex Ince, Angaly Deodat, Brent Harrison, Crystal Blunt, Dakoda Walkes, Richard Coggin, Shanice Forde, Tabu Lall Kissoon,

 Terron Greenidge, Tyla Miller, Javon Alexander, Kaden Richards, Keimar Beckles, Marlon Pusey, Michael Roberts and Mitchell Szucs. The two top students who amassed a total of 43 points were Dakoda Walkes and Terron Greenidge. Awards this year took the form of Shotokan Karate books, namely the Best Karate Series and the Textbook of Modern Karate written by Master Teruyuki Okazaki, the latter book was awarded to Dakoda and Terron. It is hoped that these books will now take the student to the next level in their Karate studies. For their continued dedication to the Federation Julie Gardner, Maria Warren and Grantley Barrow were all recognized for their efforts in 2011.

This year besides the three gradings the Federation plans to bring Sensei James Fields 8th. Dan in August for a training seminar, last year Hiro Okazaki came and this was well received by all; seminars such as these are open to all Skotokan Karatekas regardless of affiliation.
