The WICB is under fire from several quarters after intimating Barbados and Antigua will not be hosting England when they tour the Caribbean in 2015. The news has brought widespread condemnation from within the region and in England where both venues are extremely popular with the Barmy Army and England’s many travelling fans. While it is commendable that the Board should look to spread fixtures across the region there are plenty of other matches that would fit the bill as few countries can match the magnificent Kensington Oval for staging the match, the wide range of hotels in Barbados for accommodating the fans, the airlift to get them here and of course the unique atmosphere of England playing in Barbados. And for those rivals who feel Barbados has had its share of top matches they should remember the huge cost the island’s tax payers embraced to rebuild the Kensington Oval for the World Cup Final in 2007, a cost that may never be recouped if the top matches are played elsewhere.
Let’s rally together to get this ridiculous decision overturned.
