A magnificent last over from Ronsford Beaton saw the Guyana Amazon Warriors home by 7 runs against the Barbados Tridents despite another magnificent century from Dwayne Smith (104no). Smith and Shoiab Malik (50) looked to have set the home team on their path to a third straight win, but a series of batting disasters led by out of form skipper Kieron Pollard contributed to a desperate attempt to pull off a victory that looked assured with five overs to go. Beaton was the hero at the finish but earlier Lendl Simmons (64) and Martin Guptill (55) gave the leading Barbados bowlers a torrid time in reaching 173-5 before a large noisy crowd that included as many Warriors supporters as Trident supporters. It was the best of the three Kensington Oval matches this week despite the defeat for the Tridents who will still go through to the semi-finals in St Kitts next week.
What a pity as the Kensington Oval looked resplendent and is surely the ideal place for a CPL Twenty20 Final?
