The Barbados Pro-Am golf tournament is the newest tournament to join The Golf Connection’s portfolio of destination events and the latest to be added to the local calendar of sporting events.

The inaugural event, which takes place from March 10 through 16, has received extensive exposure within The Golf Connection’s Private Club market, which is a sub segment of the golf industry that contains golf’s best prospects for reaching high-yield travel consumers.

At present, the Private Club market in the United States represents approximately 3-4 million amateur golfers who help drive 87% of the industry’s total spending, from greens fees to equipment purchases, apparel to travel.

The 2012 Barbados Pro-Am now joins The Golf Connection’s other destination events in Jamaica and St. Kitts, and seeks to generate incremental interest for Barbados as a premier golf destination among the most influential segment of the US golf market.

Six teams are expected for the event: two groups from the Medallion Club located in Ohio; Laconia Country Club, out of New Hampshire; Sharon Country Club, Connecticut; South Fork Country Club, New York; and, Alpine Country Club from Cranston, Rhode Island.

Tournament rounds will be played on two of Barbados' top golf courses: Sandy Lane Country Club, designed by Tom Fazio and host of the 2006 World Golf Championships Barbados World Cup; and, Apes Hill, opened in late 2009, the championship course is one of the newest layouts in the Caribbean.

Since 2003, The Golf Connection has been staging destination events that combine the excitement of a competitive tournament with the luxury lifestyle activities of a first-class vacation.  These events offer The Golf Connection’s host destination partners the opportunity to showcase their tourism product in a dynamic manner, among an audience that is highly sought after.
