Covid-19 has brought various requirements to golf, but Rockley is complying and still continues to buzz on and off the fairways.

The Snowbirds are still returning, albeit not as many as in the past, but the influx of new members has stimulated Rockley Golf in 2021. Tournaments have been postponed due to the Covid-19 restrictions, but most days more members and visitors are enjoying the ambience of parkland golf. Rockley is unique, sometimes called an oasis in the midst of condominiums, with its manicured fairways, towering mahogany trees, and shrubbery.

Rockley Golf is a friendly club that welcomes local and visiting players. The 9-hole course is compact, devoid of hills and lakes, and offers a great test to any aspiring golfer. After all, out-of-bounds line the fairways at every hole, and the wayward player must play straight or pay the penalty.

Big hitters don’t normally win at Rockley!

Rockley can’t compete with the big 18-hole Barbados courses, but the picturesque ambience can compete with any other course on the island. And, it can compete with greens fees and membership. Rockley green fees are the lowest on the island, and you can become a member at BDS$990 this year!

If you are a visitor the Pro Shop can provide accessories, including clubs, carts, trolleys, balls, tees and branded merchandise.  And, to finish any game, the clubhouse is a splendid finale for a few drinks and refreshments. Justin Brown is the new Restaurateur with an excellent Menu, sports TVs and friendly service, the ethos of Rockley golf.

Rockley Golf Club is based on tradition and history. It was founded in 1926, although the landscape has dramatically changed in the modern era.  The club has a Men’s and Ladies Captain, and Golf Director to deal with the day-to-day administration. A Board of Directors run the Club, including Club Chairman, Corporate Secretary and 5 other Directors.  The course is leased from Rockley Golf Lands Inc.

The Club will celebrate its Centenary in 2026.

Over the years many celebrities have played at Rockley. They include West Indies and Barbados cricket all-rounder Sir Garfield Sobers, who used to play every Tuesday and Thursdays with the local members for many years, West Indies opener Desmond Haynes, Jason Holder, the current West Indies Captain, and Head Coach Phil Simmons. The England Test Squad stayed in the complex during the 1980s and 1990s, and UK Magician Paul Daniels loved Rockley when he stayed there. The former Arsenal and Ireland footballer Liam Brady played several years ago, and the Barbados and Netherlands International, Nolan Clarke, has played several times, and won the coveted Christmas Hamper in 2012.

Several of the Snowbirds members live or rent during their time on the island, ranging from 2 weeks to six months. The spin-off from Covid-19 has meant members now stay longer in the current dilemma worldwide. The Barbados Welcome Stamp has enabled many workers from overseas to work in Barbados, and several of them became Rockley members.

Island Gold Realty is based at Rockley and you can rent or purchase from the condominiums. You can purchase from as little as US$225,000.

It’s not just an oasis, but a paradise for many!
