For the second year in succession the well-known American horse owner Ken Ramsey carried off the Sandy Lane Gold Cup at a sun-drenched Garrison Race Track. Rico Walcott was the winning jockey on Saylor’s Creek with his stable mate Patrick Husbands relegated to 4th place on the hot favourite Gentleman’s Kitten. The widely fancied Daunting David and Knight Rider finished a close 2nd and 3rd respectively, but it was a disappointing day for Just a Fashion who was the choice of many local racing experts.
The Garrison arena was packed with thousands of visitors joining locals to enjoy the racing highlight of the year. The popular parade was the largest for years and the inside of the track was thronging with many sideshows and entertainment.
