Double-Header Sprint in the north this weekend

The only eligible driver with a 100 per cent record so far this season, Modified 1 points leader Edward Corbin (Daihatsu Charmant) tops the table in the Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Champion Driver title chase. With four rounds run and three to go, starting with the BRC Double-Header Sprint on Sunday (September 29), there is still all to fight for, with a spread of only 10 points across the top six in the standings and 58 available.
Corbin’s 75 points give him a small cushion of three over Clubman 2 leader Ian Warren, whose 100 per cent record was ended by fellow BimmaCup driver Allan Kinch, who beat him by less than five seconds on the Sunday of Sol Rally Barbados 2019. A further two points adrift is Paul Horton, who represents the Turks & Caicos Islands in his Citroen DS 3 R3 MAX, leading the most hotly-contested class – Modified 2 – by one point; he and arch-rival Jamal Brathwaite (Honda Civic Type-R) have shared the wins equally so far this season, Brathwaite tied in fourth place in the overall title chase on 69 points with Roger Hill (Toyota Corolla WRC), who leads Modified 4.
Canadian Stan Hartling (BMW M3), Horton’s Turks & Caicos Islands team-mate, lies sixth with 65 points, leading Modified 3, ahead of a trio of drivers tied on 60 for seventh – WRC leader Dane Skeete (Subaru Impreza WRC S12B), then Stuart Garcia and Allan Kinch, who are second and third in Clubman 2 in their BimmaCup cars. The top 10 is completed by John Corbin (Toyota Corolla), who leads the Historics.
Skeete leads the BRC 4wd Championship by 16 points from Hill, with Trinidad & Tobago’s David Coelho (Ford Fiesta R5) in third place, a further seven behind. The 2wd Championship is being led by SuperModified 2 points leader Stuart Maloney (Citroen C2) with 46 points, two ahead of Hartling, with Horton a further two points adrift.
Rounds five and six of the Championship, Sunday’s BRC Double-Header Sprint offers a maximum of 15 points for a class win in each direction, while the enhanced points system for the season finale – the BRC Winter Rally next month – rewards a class win with 28 points; with no ‘dropped score’ rule, the pressure is on for all concerned. Slated for a 10.30am start, Sunday’s event will run over a 3.95-kilometre course between Lamberts and Pickerings; there will be four timed runs in each direction. The Start, Service Park and Finish will be at the MTW Chance Hall Depot in St Lucy.
