James Emson, one of three category Champions at the inaugural Caterham Caribbean Cup two years ago, is among drivers confirmed for CCC25 at Bushy Park Barbados in December. After Caterham Motorsport’s UK season ended at Silverstone over the first weekend of this month (October 4/5), teams turned their attention to preparing cars for shipping across the Atlantic.
Emson and his son Tom won the Caterham 270R title at CCC23 in a dominant display, winning both the floodlit and daytime one-hour Enduros, two of the four Sprints and claiming five out of six fastest laps. Their winning margin of 30 points was comfortably the largest in the three categories – 270R, 310R and 420R – as the British sports car manufacturer’s special brand of wheel-to-wheel racing lit up the St Philip facility.
This year’s Caterham Motorsport calendar included the company’s first-ever two-hour race, the Caterham Grand Prix, a non-championship event at Snetterton in August, where Emson showed his colours again: sharing a 310R with Edward Drake, he finished just 15 seconds behind the winning 270R of Harrison Cavers, with Scott Helme completing the podium another 10secs adrift in a Caterham Roadsport. Both Cavers and Helme are among this year’s newcomers to Barbados, as the event has been opened up to include competitors from Caterham’s grassroots Academy and Roadsport categories. More than 1200 drivers have been introduced to motor sport through the Caterham Academy since 1995, including 2023 Champion Nick Highton, who finished third in the 420R category in CCC23 sharing with Lewis Thompson, and 2024 Champion Paul Oggelsby, who will race at Bushy Park for the first time.
CCC25 is set for December 5/6 and will complete Bushy Park’s 2025 season. The support categories remain a work in progress, with some ambitious plans under discussion to expand the on-track action. There were more than 500 racing laps in 15 Sprint and Enduro events at CCC23, which was organised by Bushy Park Motorsports Inc (BPMSI) along with a team of senior officials from Caterham Motorsport.
Simon Lambert, Caterham’s Chief Motorsport Officer & Head of Customer Engagement, said: "It's fantastic to be returning to the island following the success of our event two years ago. Drivers have been talking about it ever since and it's become a highlight to look forward to this year. Bushy Park's tight, twisting circuit is perfect for the Caterham Seven and with the experience of 23, we expect the racing to be even closer and more exciting than before."
BPCI Operations Director Amy Willis added: “We are very excited to host the second Caterham Caribbean Cup at Bushy Park and to welcome both new and returning drivers to the circuit. We are looking forward to another thrilling weekend of racing, and we can’t wait to see what unforgettable moments this year’s event will deliver.”For media information only. No regulatory value
