The DHL North America and Caribbean Rugby Association International Sevens Tournament at the Garrison Savannah was devastated by a deluge of rain for most of the Saturday that turned the grounds into a quagmire. It says much for the tournament organizers and particularly the players that they completed the busy two-day schedule in atrocious conditions and still tried to play open attractive rugby in the spirit of Sevens. Guyana were the deserved winners of the Men’s section after they confirmed their superiority with an emphatic 29-0 win over Cayman in the final. The Ladies title went to the Canadian team, but the biggest disappointment for the local fans was the dismal performances from both the Barbados teams. On this showing they have a lot of ground to make up to be a rugby force in the region. Despite that, the event was a huge success for the Barbados rugby administrators who hosted 28 visiting countries with considerable aplomb.
