FLYING FISH, a Rugby Barbados Sevens select team, recently competed in the Ashby 7’s tournament in Leicestershire, England.  FLYING FISH started with a tough loss to Loughborough 24-17, an excellent win over Jesters 26-14 and a 30-5 win over England Colleges.  They completed their day with an emphatic win over Thundercats 31-12.   Jesters won the cup with a 24-17 victory over Loughborough.  FLYING FISH, LOUGHBOROUGH and JESTERS were tied on points and tries scored but FLYING FISH lost out on converted tries, the third tie breaker method.

Head coach Joe Whipple commented “it was a very good tournament.  We achieved all of our objectives.  We were able to a look at four new players, assess the development of the experienced players, implement some new patterns of play and set the markers going forward.  At times we played very well especially against the Jesters who last year were runner-ups at Amsterdam Sevens.  Our new player, Jamahl Hunte, was voted MVP by the players.  Everyone is excited about how good this team can become by November for the Commonwealth Qualifiers. We look forward to our next tournament in Nottingham were we will probably add four or five new players.”

We thank Barbados Olympic Association for their support in our journey to qualify for the Commonwealth, Central American and Hong Kong Sevens.
