Mount Gay Barbados Regatta 2013 - Final Report:
"Ninja crew win it for Shane"
The crew of the Benneteau 10M "Ninja", lead by Michael Worme, came first overall in the CSA 3 class. Racing in memory of Captain Shane Atwell the young crew won all five races with a boat that had spent the last five years landlocked. Easily spotted from a distance, the crew fended off tough competition from Jaystar and Fancy Sailor.
In the CSA2 class, Ralph Johnson's Rapajam were too fast for Whistler, who had to settle for second, and the Trinidadian C-MOS, who suffered gear failure on the first day.
The tightest scoreline came from the class with the most, um, comfortable boats. Despite looking elegant and relaxed while racing back from Oistins, Leonora, Perseverance and Lantana were engaged in an almighty battle for first place. Leonora won, while Perseverance and Lantana tied on points and 2nd place had to be decided by a count back, in favour of Perseverance.
The J24 class, which sailed a total of seven races over the three days, nevertheless ended up with places 2 to 6 separated by six points. But it was Fully Covered, 14 points out front, who commanded the regatta from start to finish. A deserved win.
