Fynn Armstrong did Barbados proud in the weekend events. Participating in the Age Group Draft Legal Super Sprint on Saturday, he was fourth out of the water in a field of 55 men. With a super quick transition was second out on his bike, forming an unbeatable lead pack of two that lead the race throughout the 10km ride. Exiting transition for the 2.5km run, Fynn maintained his top 2 position throughout the half-way point, only relinquishing his position to an older age group competitor towards the end, and taking an overall third place finish, second in his 15-19 age Group.

The Sunday event, the highly competitive U25 Elite Development Race was Fynn’s second year in this race, having participated last year. While intended for older athletes, Fynn’s debut performance last drew attention with his 27th place finish. This year’s race saw Fynn out of the 750m swim 44th in the 70 strong pack, but with a great transition and ride, saw him steadily claw back position, with the 20th fastest ride in this very competitive and older field, and putting him up into 27th place. With a predicted 5km run time of circa 17 minutes, Fynn then had a shot at a sub 20th place, a significant achievement for one of the youngest competitors in this elite division. Unfortunately, nature stepped in and with severe discomfort from heel blisters from the previous day, he made the decision to retire early, saving his legs for his upcoming Carifta 5000m run which he qualified for just 10 days ago.
